The War of 1812 affected many parts of Niagara County as battles raged, forts were taken and lost, and villages burned. British and American troops, Native peoples and settlers were caught up in tumultous years which changed the course of history in this area. The Niagara History Center has published “Finding the War of 1812 in Niagara County,” a free map and guide to all Niagara County sites involved in the War. The map was published through a generous grant from the New York State Council on the Humaniities. You can get your map at the History Center or Erie Canal Discovery Center.
The map also includes a QR code, which you can scan with your Smart Phone to link to an interactive map and more information about each location.
