Erire Canal Discovery Center

Members of the public will get a glimpse into the lives and times of some of Lockport’s most famous – but long-departed – residents on June 18th, when the Niagara History Center presents another program of ‘Cemetery Tales’ at Cold Springs Cemetery.

The Step Back in Time Players will portray several well-known people from the past, appearing at their graves to tell the stories of their lives. Among those depicted will be Lyman Spalding, an early Lockport industrialist and entrepreneur; Jesse Hawley, whose 1806 articles resulted in the Erie Canal; Birdsall Holly, a 19th Century manufacturer and brilliant inventor; Charlie Case, a prominent Vaudeville comedian; and Cappy Daniels, an early ‘Lady of the Evening.’

The tours will begin at 1:00pm on Sunday, June 18th at the parking area of Cold Springs Cemetery, 4849 Cold Springs Road in Lockport, New York. The program is open to the public. Suggested donation is $10. Reservations can be made at (716) 434-7433.
